PHILANTHROPY | MAKING BIG IMPACTS AS AN AVERAGE PERSON
We invite you to join us in a year long journey to making an impact through philanthropy.
When I first dreamed of how Rust Belt Lifestyle would look, I knew I wanted it to be of service: a service to people looking to get news of their small business out into the world, a help to the environment by supporting sustainability, a service to the arts by providing a platform to artists to showcase work, a resource to those both traveling to the region and those who reside here. Perhaps the biggest mission of all is to help show how we all can make a difference to the Rust Belt Region regardless of our income.
Michael Bloomberg defines philanthropy as: "Helping others. It could be by giving money. It could be by giving time and wisdom. It could be by spending money or time to get legislators to do what's right for other people."
With that definition in mind you can see that almost all of us have the power to call ourselves philanthropists if we choose to act and be of service.
The plan is this-we are going to bring you features on people who volunteer time, money, wisdom, etc., as well as features on events that raise money for funds, the funds themselves, the people behind the funds and Rust Belt based charities. We are going to provide first hand accounts of volunteering (and ask you to join us). We are also going to pay special attention to businesses we encounter that give back by having special relationships with causes and charities along with providing you with actionable tips and ideas on how you can make a big impact.
We need your assistance.
Please send us the names of people and organizations that you think should be featured. We want to be as diverse as possible. Send us your tips and ideas on how you're making an impact. Lastly, plan on joining us at an event, volunteer opportunity, letter writing campaign, or in fund raising.
