SLOW LIVING | EXPLORING THE JAPANESE GARDEN AT PHIPPS
SLOW LIVING is a lifestyle emphasizing slower approaches to aspects of everyday life largely by being thoughtful. So in the midst of a hectic day in Pittsburgh running between client appointments and photo shoots, I decided to take a midday break and visit the Japanese Garden at Phipps Conservatory.
If you've been to Phipps, then you know there is a whole lot to see, but my preferred way to visit is one room at a time. So I walked directly towards the Japanese Garden to spend the hour I had available immersed in the design.
By thoughtfully slowing down I was able to enjoy the details.
Slowing down-taking pleasure not just in the natural beauty, but also in the creation of others. Admiring the skill in maintenance and the time and care that goes into the process.
By sitting quietly on a rock in the shade beside the pond, I was also able to make a new friend. She edged closer and closer, occasionally darting away as someone came past, until she was only a foot from me. She continued to come up the the surface and spend a few minutes checking me out.
